Five on Friday - Let's Catch Up

Eeeeeeek!

I am so excited to be linking up with A.LizNatashaDarci and Christina for my first post back in the blogging swing-of-things! I sure have missed these weekly roundups. So let's get going with my Five on Friday!

one //
Ombré hair, don't care! Last week I took the plunge and decided to color my hair a little differently. Because I live in DC and have yet to find a hair stylist here, I still go back to North Carolina for my hair appointments. I'm terrible at maintaining my color, therefore, I decided to try something that would stay looking great longer between appointments than just my typical highlight/lowlight routine. A faint ombré was my solution, leaving the roots my natural color... and I am LOVING IT! I'll probably do a full post about it next week!

two //
A few weeks ago my 3 best girl friends flew in and stayed the weekend with me! I had the most amazing time showing them my city and catching up. We had a full weekend of activities and I loved every minute of it. I can't wait until they come back!!

three //
On September 28th, Mr. E and I celebrated our 1 Year Anniversary. That may not seem like a long time, and I know it may be silly, but we had so much fun making it a special day for each other! (Yes, he bought me a waffle maker!)

four //
I have fallen in love with In-N-Out burger. I make an effort to go anytime I fly over to the west coast. My usual order: Cheeseburger Animal Style, Animal Fries, Chocolate Shake. So basically, animal style overload! Yes.

five //
I tried to do a Juice Cleanse... and I learned that I hate juicing. Mr. E and I attempted to complete a 5 day juice cleanse and only made it about 48 hours. For those of you who can commit to a 3, 5, 7, or month long juice cleanse, this is me giving you an enthusiastic round of applause, because that is no joke my friends. I'll stick with my In-N-Out.

I'M BACK (For real this time)

Hello lovely people!

I'm ashamed to say that it has been quite a while since my last post. I could go on about how busy I've been with flying and also my freelance design work while proceeding to make a ton of other excuses, but I'm not going to. Let's just say that I was in a blogging-rut and am forcing myself out of it, thanks to the encouragement of Mr. E, my mom and some other very sweet people.

So what have I been up to?

These past 3 months I've been all over the place, literally. I guess that comes with the job. During my absence, I've experienced my first summer in DC! I've been on a few vacations, have had wonderful visits from a few best friends and family, traveled all over the country for work, fallen in love with In-N-Out, celebrated 1 year with Mr. E and I've Ombréd my hair (pictures coming soon!).

Needless to say, I've got some pretty great stories and pictures that I need to share.

So this is me saying "I'M BACK" and am more excited than ever to really make something of this blog and maybe even dabble further in the crazy world of Youtube!

My life is a little crazy, but I have so much fun living it. I hope you'll enjoy following along...

EVERYDAY MAKEUP & HAIR! ...I'm on Youtube now?!

Well hello lovely people!! It has been way too long, I know! This summer has been so busy for me and I feel like I have barely found time to relax. Work has picked up and I've been flying around 3 to 4 days a week, EVERY WEEK, and it has been that way for the past 1-2 months. Let's see, I've been to New Orleans, Nashville, Chicago, Phoenix, Jacksonville, San Juan, Newark, Houston, Denver, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Orlando... and I'm sure a few more destinations that aren't coming to mind right now.

Besides work, I've been traveling a lot on weekends to visit my family and for little mini vacations with friends and Mr. E! It's been fun having lots to do, but let me tell you, I am so excited to finally spend this upcoming weekend in DC, with NO PLANS!

So what is new with me? Well...

I made a Youtube channel! I have been following all the beauty and style gurus on youtube for 5+ years now and have always dreamed about finally working up the courage to do it myself. So, with a BIG little push from friends, family and Mr. E, I've gone for it. It is absolutely a work in progress, but I'm already having fun with it! I hope you will all follow along, share with your friends, and go through this sometimes embarrassing and silly, but nonetheless exciting journey with me!

So here is my first video: My Everyday Makeup & Hair! I hope you enjoy. If you have any questions at all, feel free to comment here or on Youtube, I'd love to here from you!

what I just PINNED

Hello, hello!

I just got back from a 2-day flying trip where I had to spend the night in Boston! Mr. E grew up there, so I love wandering around and exploring his stomping grounds. 2-Day work trips are my favorite, I only have to be gone for 1 night, and it feels almost like a mini-vacay. I love relaxing for a night in my hotel room with my favorite TV shows, a good book or my personal fave... Pinterest!

Don't you just love all the beautiful pictures and ideas on Pinterest?

I thought I would share some more lovelies that I just pinned onto my Pinterest boards today. If you don't already, go on over and follow me so we can share some amazing things!

Happy Wednesday, y'all! We're halfway to the weekend :)

Five on Friday

Well Hello! It sure has been a little while...

I have been a busy girl the past 2 weeks and I just haven't found a minute to sit down and talk to y'all. But, I am eager and determined to change that!

Let's get going with my Five on Friday for this week, linking up with A.LizNatashaDarci and Christina, with hopes that it will help us catch up a little bit on what's been going on in my life lately...

one //
Life as a flight attendant isn't always as glamorous as you would expect, but it does have its perks. Last Tuesday, at 3:30AM, I was woken up by "the ring" (my special ringer for when work calls). They informed me that I was being quick-called and I needed to be at the airport by 5AM! Not he best feeling... But I soon realized that I would be gone on a 4 day trip, overnighting in New Orleans the first 2 nights and the last night in Minneapolis. I had never been to New Orleans before, Mr. E and I had even been talking about taking a weekend trip there sometime this summer, so I was very excited to visit. He wasn't very thrilled to be missing out. I had a wonderful time with my crew, taking a horse and carriage tour of the French Quarter, snacking on Beignets and Café au Lait from Café du Monde, drinking Hurricanes at the oldest bar, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop Bar, and eating a wonderful seafood dinner. I can't wait to go back!

two //
Last weekend, J.Crew was offering 30% off their colorful linen tees and chino shorts. I'm not sure if the sale is still going on, but if it is, go go go! I was seriously needing some new shirts for summer and the J.Crew linen v-neck pocket tees were perfect, I got 3 colors, the sea foam, lavender and white with navy striped sleeves! I also got a couple scoop-neck pocket tanks, in white and a neon pink color. Of course I couldn't bypass the sale on shorts, so I got a bright pink pair in the 3" chinos. Lastly, yes there's more... I saw the beautiful Crystal Shade earrings in one of the jewelry cases and to my delight, they were 25% off! Don't you just love a good sale? I think I'm taking a break from shopping for a little while...

three //
I brought out my watercolors for the first time in a while and I had the best afternoon just doodling away. I really need to do this more often...

four //
Scratch DC does it again! If you didn't read my post about this wonderful company that delivers dinner kits of amazing recipes, go on over a take a look! Last Thursday, Mr. E and I ordered the Roasted Garlic, Parmesan & White Wine Farfalle with Sundried Tomatoes, Pancetta, Chicken, Mushrooms & Peas! And yes, it was as delicious as it sounds! I was even thrilled to see they included a really cool 4-in-one spoon, spatula, kitchen tool? How cool! ...thanks ScratchDC for the beautiful ingredient picture!

five //
For memorial weekend, Mr. E surprised me with a day trip to Baltimore. He wanted to go to the Aquarium, walk around and enjoy the inner harbor and eat some fresh crab, and I couldn't think of a better way to spend Sunday! The weather couldn't have been more perfect! We spent hours just wandering around the touristy Inner Harbor, braving the crowded aquarium and then escaped to Fell's Point where we found the perfect little restaurant to eat dinner, Riptide By the Bay. All in all, it was the perfect day, crab bibs included!
I hope you all have enjoyed your weeks and have some fun things in store for the weekend! I'm going to the Nationals baseball game tonight and can't wait to get my hands on a hot dog!!

Sephora Collection Moonshadow Baked Palette | In the Dark

I went 'beauty' shopping the other day and definitely may have gone a little overboard. I had been holding off buying some essential beauty products and decided it was time to just go and get everything. There are few places I love to shop at more than Sephora. I can honestly get lost in there for hours, which usually ensures that I end up in the checkout line with a basket full of things I wasn't looking for in the first place. This was one of those occasions...

I found this beautiful Sephora Collection Moonshadow Baked Palette in the color In the Dark. I was drawn to the 2 rows of high shimmer colors that ranged from the very light to very dark. This is the perfect palette for a night out or any occasion where you need an extra 'oomph'. I decided to play it safe this time and use more of the lighter colors with the deep brown in the crease.

Of course I couldn't stay away from my gel winged liner, it's my 'thing'...

I also have 3 new products that I'm in love with, Anastasia Brow Wiz, Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelée and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar. Because I'm so obsessed, I've decided to wait and tell you about them in separate posts!

Barrett goes to Prom

I missed another Five on Friday last week, and I'm not happy about it! After a long week of work, all I wanted to do was jump on a plane and go home to North Carolina to help my little sister go to her first prom! It wasn't as easy as I had hoped... I got back from work around 7pm Thursday afternoon and decided to stay at the airport to try and catch the 10:50pm flight home. One of the perks of being a flight attendant is that I fly free, anywhere at any time. But, I fly standby, which means I don't have a guaranteed seat. Needless to say, the flight ended up being completely full and I realized that I had sat at the airport for 4 hours for nothing! My sweet, Mr. E gallantly came to pick to me up so I could try to get some sleep before the early flight the next morning. I luckily got on that flight and was immediately swept up into the 'pre-prom' routine. Hence why I didn't have time to put up my Five on Friday post!

My family was hosting the pictures and we expected to have about 18 high schoolers and all their parents at our house. My mom is literally the hostess with the mostest and had planned the cutest get together. We had a beautiful table set out on our front porch full of yummy treats. In true Southern Belle fashion, my little sister, Barrett, baked bowtie shaped sugar cookies and iced them to perfection. We had a big bowl of fluffy cotton candy, chicken salad pastries, pimento cheese and crackers, chocolate covered strawberries and Arnold Palmers in a big pitcher. Not only that but my mom had made some amazing props for all the prom-goers to take pictures with. We had big empty frames, funny hats and all kinds of mustaches, sunglasses and other things to cover your face. One of my jobs was to write "Prom 2014" on a little chalkboard sign.

I was also in charge of everything beauty related for my little sister. I took her to get her nails done and she chose this beautiful pale pink color with gold glitter on her ring fingers as an accent nail. I took her to her hair appointment and made sure it was exactly what she wanted, half-up with a little body and loosely curled. After all of that, I did her makeup. I ended up almost exactly recreating the first prom look I demoed in my blog post from a few weeks ago! I used the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and created a pinky-gold, shimmery look with black gel winged liner, a few individual false lashes at the outer corners and a soft pink lip.

All in all it turned out spectacular! Barrett looked absolutely stunning in her Lily Pulitzer full length dress and everyone seemed to really enjoy and appreciate all the thought that we had put in to the everything. Don't you just miss prom?

Coach Heels... Help me decide!

As I mentioned last week, one of my best friends was leaving beautiful Manhattan to come visit me in the Nations Capitol for the weekend! We had an amazing time brunching, shopping, exploring and catching up with some other friends. She's always been a light packer, unlike me -- I have the terrible fear that I will forget something that I will desperately need -- but she still always manages to pack the most amazing things into her tiny bag. Enter in: the to-die-for blue, snakeskin Coach heels. After drooling over them all weekend, I decided to stop by the coach website and look at the shoe selection, and boy am I thrilled that I did. There is an overabundance of the most unique heels that are a mix-and-match of color, pattern and texture.

I have decided that I definitely need a pair in my life, but I can't seem to choose which style!! I think I have managed to narrow it down to the Sevilla Sandal and the Lexey Heel... what do you think? I would love a second opinion!

It's raining here in DC, but I hope your tuesday is beautiful!

Prom Makeup | Glamorous Smokey Eye using Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

Hello, hello! I'm back this week with another Prom / Evening makeup look. This time I used the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette to create a more smokey, glamorous eye! If a Prom isn't on the agenda, you can definitely rock this at any formal event, cocktail party or even a dressy night out.

Naked 2 is the palette that I take with me the most when I travel because of its very wearable browns and golds on the left side! But, to spice things up a bit, I decided to stick with the more silvery, gray colors on the right side for this look. I started out with the brighter, silvery shade in the inner corners of the eyes and faded into the darker, more rich tones.

To make it more dramatic, I decided to pair it with an orange-red lip -- I guess the phrase 'go big or go home' can be used here...

Instead of using a gel, or liquid liner, I smudged the black shadow color, Blackout, along the lash line and up towards the crease on the outer corner. I did use a black pencil liner in the upper waterline to make the lashes seem thicker and darker.

Below, I have outlined what shadows I used and where. I have also included all the product names and brushes I used on my face, eyes and lips at the end!

Five on Friday

one // I have never been one to have a consistent work-out schedule, so it's a pretty big accomplishment that Mr. E has somehow gotten me to work out with him about 3 times a week for the past few months -- if I'm good... baby steps. Now that it's warming up, he's had the bright idea to drag me outside to run around the National Mall with him, which is conveniently located only blocks from my apartment. Well, this gal has never been a distance runner, so this has been quite the experience. My way of hiding near-death exhaustion, stopping to take some "too good to pass up" touristy pics. He pretends like he's buying it...

two // I mentioned my bestie, Adrienne, in my FOF post a couple weeks ago. I went to visit her in NYC the weekend before Easter and we had such an amazing time! I just got a message from her saying that she has decided to take the rest of the day off from work and she's going to head to DC for the weekend!! To make things even better, one of my other best friends is heading up from NC to spend the weekend here too! I am so unbelievably excited to have some of my closest girls with me for the weekend.

three // Waterlogue App. Download it. Watercolor your pictures. Nothing more to say, y'all.

four // My parents know how much I love food, cooking and kitchen gadgets, so for my birthday, one of my gifts was this Cuisinart Smart Stick Hand Blender! I have been loving discovering all the ways I can use it -- pureeing soups, milkshakes, sauces, etc. My current obsession is using it to make smoothies!! No need for a traditional blender, it will blend up any fruit, veggie or food that you want to incorporate. Yum!

five // When in New York City, I fell in love with these Ray Ban Aviators in matte gold and flash blue lenses. I decided I was due for some new sunglasses and I couldn't pass these up! Bring on the summer sun! P.S. Ray Ban is on Rue La La right now and I believe these are on sale!! If you're a member, go for it :)

I love linking up with A.LizNatashaDarci and Christina on Fridays!!

Have a wonderful weekend, y'all!!
