Well hello 2016!

Does anyone else feel like it's still 2015? I can't seem to get my mind into the new year. Maybe that's why I'm doing a Holiday Recap nearly 2 weeks after the holidays have ended. #dontjudge

Okay, so I feel like there is so much I need to say. Firstly, if you don't want to know the inner workings of life as a flight attendant during the holidays, skip this whole paragraph!! The life of a Flight Attendant around the holidays is pretty tough. I haven't had Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Years Day off in 3 years, and I know so many of you out there can relate! My poor family has had to plan our celebrations around my very untraditional schedule, and I am so thankful that they have been willing to work with me these few years! I am still on "Reserve" as a Flight Attendant, which means I am given a monthly schedule of days I am "on call" and days when I'm "off" -- I get 11 days off a month, usually 2-4 days in a row. When I'm on call, I don't know in advance where I will fly to, how long I will be gone, or even IF I'm going to get called out to work at all; I have to have my phone on and my bags packed to go at a moments notice. This year I was SO shocked that I wasn't called out to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas OR New Years. I was able to spend time with Eric in DC on all those big holidays, but not my family. Eric is Jewish, so he doesn't have any family obligations over Christmas! Even though I didn't get "called out", I was still on duty and had to be in DC just in case. Yes, how frustrating! Eric and I made the most of our holidays, though.

Y'all, I don't know what I would have done without him. To be honest, I don't know if I would still be a Flight Attendant or in DC if it weren't for him! I met Eric my first week living in DC in September of 2013. I was assigned to be based in DC, not my choice at all, and had every intention of transferring to Charlotte, NC as soon as I could to work as a flight attendant there. Everything changed when I met him, though. I guess that's fairly obvious since it's now 2016 and I'm still in DC! Our first holiday season together he knew how hard it was on me to be away from my family. He made every effort to make the season as special for me as possible, even surprising me with my very own Christmas Tree and stockings after only knowing me for a couple of months! Mushy moment: he told me he loved me for the first time as he dropped me off at the airport to go work on Christmas Day. This year marks our THIRD holiday season together and he is still making my life even sweeter. One of my favorite moments was when he surprised me with tickets to see Washington Ballet's performance of The Nutcracker!

Although DC is so beautiful during Holidays, I still wish I could have been with my family more. My older sister Brittany is a NICU nurse, so she understands my crazy schedule. Because of us my family usually picks a few days before or after Thanksgiving and Christmas and we go all out and pretend it's the real days! Eric takes off work too and we make the 4 hour drive to Raleigh together.

So here is the run-down for the Odom Holidays:

'Odom Thanksgiving' was the weekend after Thanksgiving:
We took our Christmas card pictures and went to the UNC vs NCSU football game! We are a completely divided household when it comes to these two rival teams: me, my dad, and my soon to be brother-in-law went to NCSU; my older sister Brittany, younger sister Barrett and Eric went to UNC! We had the a huge feast on Sunday and spent the rest of our time playing games, watching movies and drinking lots of wine, (an Odom family must).

'Odom Christmas' was December 20-23, Christmas Eve being on the 21st and Christmas Day was the 22nd.

Since Christmas usually comes early for us, we have adapted some new traditions these few years! One that I've started looking forward to is going to a Raleigh favorite, The Angus Barn, with my whole family for drinks and appetizers while soaking in their super festive decorations. I am pretty sure it is the most "Christmassy" place in all of Raleigh! Odom Christmas Eve and Christmas went off without a hitch this year. Even though it was a few days early, it felt just like Christmas to us! Christmas is something Eric didn't grow up celebrating, so it's so much fun watching him get involved and excited with us too!

WARNING: An annoying amount of pictures below...

I ordered the Pumpkin Pie Cake from Milk Bar DC and brought it home for Thanksgiving!

I had so many Pet Portrait orders! I basically spent all of November-December painting! (post about all the orders coming soon!) In the meantime, check out my Etsy shop: B.Wanders Design Co

Eric took me to see The Nutcracker by the Washington Ballet (he actually loved it!)

Eric's elf sweater looks more like a tomato...

In Raleigh, I got to see one of my best childhood friends who moved to LA after we graduated High School! Isn't she the prettiest?!

There is nothing better than Doodle Hugs (and doodle afros)

I had the best time with friends and family over the holidays! I'm so sad it's all over, but I have so many exciting things to look forward to this year! Cheers to 2016, Friends!
